Are You Ready for the Rainy Days?

By: Jim Aldridge

One of the greatest mistakes that we make is not thinking about the rainy days. Just how many of us plan for an unexpected trouble in times of good economy? Do we not realize that some good things never last? With the recent hit in our economy, how many of us were prepared? Most of us stumbled to make ends meet right? Everything seemed to become financial burdens with that tough economic situation. When the rainy days come again, can you confidently say that you are ready this time?

While everyone loves the idea of planning for the unexpected, few seem to see the true value of saving for tomorrow's needs. This is true when you look at the list of foreclosed homes. Before this happens to you, sit down and think of the smartest ways to face greater challenges of tomorrow.

When to Begin

How do I begin this so called planning for the rainy day? Well, you can start saving on your next pay check. You may have insignificant amount of money left but take note that all big things start from small ones. It will never be too late to save some to keep some.

Cutting off Expenses

After saving some for emergencies, you will still be able to shave off some to keep in your bank account. Here are the things you can start doing:

Come up with a budget list. It must be a very elementary concept but guess what; a lot of people don't have it. The logic is simple right? If you don't track your expenses, chances are, you are most likely wasting your money. Provided that most of your purchases are those you need at home. There will always be something that is out of priority that you can put off for the next pay check. Budget list include groceries, utility bills and transportation cost. You can start budgeting from these aspects of your expenses. You'll never know what you can save from it.

Let's say you have identified the loopholes in your budgeting scheme. Your next step would be to come up with a plan. It should include which expenses to trim off along with the alternatives that will replace what you take off from your list.

It will also help you to have a list of your weekly expenses such as groceries. Having a shopping list with you will prevent you from overspending. You may also consider using debit instead of credit card; might as well, us cash when purchasing. Having money at hand will give you full awareness of how much you got versus the purchases you are making. This budgeting style will always be applicable to your every expense. Take note that the ultimate goal is to purchase only those things that you need urgently.

The winter is forthcoming. This is a good time to start saving for higher cost of electricity for instance. You may be compelled to drive to the neighborhood instead of just talking a briskly walk because of the frowning weather. Things like these, you should be anticipating. If the ready days come again, how are your prepared for it?

Barter System History : Past, Present, and Future

By: Zach Thompson

The barter system for getting goods and services dates back many centuries. In most cultures the barter system was used before money was created. People who had specific items or services to sell would exchange them with others for the things they needed. The barter system transcends the monetary system.

The barter system is making a comeback today. In today's economy it is sometimes easier to exchange your product or service for that of another. What makes the barter system even better today than ever before is that it can now be done globally. In the past bartering was simply done with those that were located nearby. If the family raised chickens they traded chickens or eggs for items they needed such as cloth with which to make clothing.
Today the barter system can be used in a much more sophisticated way than ever before yet it carries with it the same basic motivation - the need for something that you don't have and the excess of something that someone else wants. The barter system allows you to negotiate the worth of your item or service in relation to products or services that you want.

Good negotiation is the key to making good trades. The barter system works best when both parties feel that they have made a good deal. While the barter system originated based on basic needs today the barter system continues to thrive. Modern life has given people access to many more things than ever before. Most people have things that they no longer need or want and can use to trade for items that they do want or need.

The barter system doesn't necessarily use money to operate. Since money varies in value from country to country bartering is easy to do anywhere in the world. Explorers and pilgrims used the barter system to get the things they needed for their journeys. The system uses the fact that some areas and some people have things that aren't always available elsewhere. For example explorers traded their goods for items such as spices that were not available where they came from.

The barter system is enjoying renewed interest today. Bartering allows you to get the things you need without having to expend additional money. Instead you can use the things you no longer need or want to get the things you do need. There are swap markets and online auctions that allow you to sell or trade your items or to purchase items that you want. Negotiation takes place just like it did hundreds of years ago. This ensures that the trade makes both parties happy. The best time to ask questions is before you make a purchase. If you are selling an item be sure to represent it properly.

The barter system in one form or another will continue to be used in society as long as people continue to have and need goods and services. The system works well and is particularly helpful when using different currency or when the economy slows.

How Much Money You Make Has Nothing to Do With How Much You Keep!

By >> Darius Maslow

Practicing good money management habits is something you must develop day by day. If you have problems spending too much money or shopping out of control, this is something you can correct. Do not beat yourself up or worry too much about the past. As you start to understand some of the basic concepts when it comes to managing money, you'll start to see day by day that you can control where you will go in your life.
First thing you must realize is that the amount of money you make has nothing to do with having good financial habits and avoiding financial mistakes. You can make $20,000 a year and make the same financial mistakes as someone who makes $1 million per year. The problem is the same, the details just change.
A person who makes $20,000 per year will probably live in a small and modest home. It will probably drive a used car that is six or seven years old. They will have to budget their money and buy groceries accordingly to what they can afford.

A person who makes $1 million a year probably lives in a very large house. They probably drive $250,000 car and do not worry too much about spending money on groceries.

The details just change, but managing money and practicing good money management habits are the same. If you make a lot of money or a little bit of money, you must learn how to manage and protect this money. Counting on your next paycheck is a losing strategy that will only get you in trouble. One day you will become older and must realize that you will not be able to work for the same paycheck for the rest of your life.

Starting today with learning how to correctly spend and save your money is essential. Do not worry about how much money you have, as this does not matter. Learn how to start saving a minimum of 10% of your income each paycheck you receive.

This one rule, saving 10% of your income, will allow you to show yourself that you can do this. After one year's time, you will see that you have intentionally set money aside. This will awaken a part of your brain that has never been awoken before. A light bulb will go off and you want to start saving more money. After you start saving money, you'll want to learn how to invest that money and make it grow for you. You must start small and start now.

Budget and Free Up Money

By >> Shawn P Dempsey

A huge benefit of creating a budget and sticking to it is that it forces you to get organized. That organization gives you the ability to track your cash flow and leads to actually being able to free up money.
Month after month as you go through your budget you will start to see areas to free up money by eliminating unnecessary spending habits. You may identify purchases that you make weekly or monthly that you realize if you would just give it up, it would free up $50, $100, or more each month.

By freeing up cash it will allow you to re-allocate money to pay off your credit card debts. Or it might allow you to save for a replacement car. You could start putting that money towards your child's education. And this is the whole purpose for getting out of debt. To free up money that use to go on credit cards. To prevent you from going into debt. A budget is just a tool to achieve this freedom.
And it can happen quickly. Soon after our family got on a budget, my wife's mother was hospitalized. My wife wanted to take a week off to go be with her. This was about the 3rd month into our budgeting experiment. By this point I was very organized with our budget and was already cutting out wasteful spending and targeting money to pay off debts. Had this happened the year before when we were living paycheck-to-paycheck it would have caused much anxiety over the thought of her taking a whole week off from work. But by looking at our budget I realized that the extra money I was freeing up to pay off debt could easily be used as an emergency fund to cover any shortfall by my wife not working. And I quickly realized she could take more time off. I told her, "why don't you go for two weeks." I think she thought I was kidding at first but I showed her on paper how it would be okay and it would not hurt us financially. And it would not even throw our debt repayment that far behind. So she took two weeks off to fly to N.J. to spend time with her mom. This may have been the start of my wife really getting on board with the whole budgeting idea after seeing how well it worked in this unexpected emergency.

Once you have focused your budget to better position yourself to pay off debts and you finally start to erase debt then you can use that money to either pay off more or simply save it. By mapping out where your money will go you can actually free up cash to be used where it is really needed.

How to Save Money at Christmas Time

By Darren Johnson

When it comes to the holidays you will realize quickly that the monies do add up in the end. When you start to purchase gifts and then notice how many additional individuals you will be buying gifts for, it may be a bit shocking to some. Christmas gift ideas do not necessarily have to be expensive items. They can be cheap yet very reasonable gifts no matter if it is for a friend or family member. You may feel "but this is a gift which didn't cost much so they will not enjoy it as much." In the end it does not matter on how much you purchased a gift for but the thought and dedication you used to pick out a great gift for someone. Money is not always everything to many.

There are a few different ways you can lessen the monies you spend during the holidays from the gifts purchased or even the idea of Christmas. As you know, when you start to grow up the Christmas holiday is not like it use to be. There is not much we want since most of us will just go out and get what we need when we need it. You either will receive gift cards or even purchase them for most of the family because you ran out of ideas. Many families, especially larger ones will just purchase gifts for the children. This will lessen the monies spent for Christmas yet the children will still enjoy their holiday.

Another way to cut back on the money during the holiday would be limiting your money spending on each individual. Many will choose to purchase items for each person on their list to either $15 or $20 rather than just picking out something they know each person will enjoy. No matter the spending limit you will always find something for everyone no matter their taste in gifts and items. Just because something does not cost $100 does not mean it was a wonderful gift.

One great option you can use if you are a parent to younger children that enjoy doing crafts is have them make different crafts for the family as their gifts to them. It will mean the world to those family members to open something the children made from their own hands rather than something purchased in the store. It will hold more compassion and love noticing all the hard work and time that the children worked on these individual projects for each person in the family.

Another option you have is to purchase coupon books for the family. You can purchase one for each so that would be about one gift per two people, which is a great bargain when they typically sell for around $25.00. They will get plenty of use out of these books and will always be able to use them rather than some gifts that never have the chance to be taken out of the box.

No matter which option you choose for the holidays when it comes to cutting back on the money issues, you will always have family and friends to keep the holidays going which is all that matters.

Money Hoarder

Mathew 6:19, "Do not lay up treasures on earth for yourselves, where moth and rust corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal."

Proverb 18:11, "The rich man's wealth is his strong city, and as a high wall in his own mind."

All consultants (advisers) will recommend their clients to set aside continually a percentage of their income to be saved/stored in the bank. not just a financial planning ahead, but also as a way to invest money. there's nothing wrong with that.
But we need to consider that saving as financial planning, or saving as a way to hoard money/wealth for personal gain, are two different things. The difference of the two is the position of money in human heart. The characteristic or manifestation of heart that loves money is holding money more than just due. And someone like that has bring himself away from God. Why? Because his sense of security lies in the amount of money not in God. (When his amount of money increases, his sense of security increases also)

One of the things we have noticed in these days is the motivation of our hearts when saving. Because if without conscious by saving money we hoard money, at the same time, we also increase our love of money. And, we have positioned our hearts firmly on earth (not in heaven).

Luke 12:34, "For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also."

(When the heart has been firmly 'stuck' on earth, can we go to heaven?)
